Azerbaijani FM, US Assistant Secretary of State hold phone talk

Azerbaijan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeyhun Bayramov has held a telephone conversation with US Acting Assistant Secretary Bureau for Europe and Eurasian Affairs Yuri Kim.

During the telephone conversation, the sides discussed bilateral and multilateral cooperation agenda between the two countries, the current situation in the region as well as the normalization process between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov informed in detail about the current situation in the region, emphasizing that the propaganda of this country, aimed at misleading the international community, does not reflect the realities against the background of the increasing military and political provocations and manipulations of Armenia against Azerbaijan.

FM Bayramov pointed out that the interference in Azerbaijan’s internal affairs, as well as efforts to reintegrate the Armenian population of the Karabakh region into Azerbaijan’s society under the pretext of baseless claims about the existence of a “difficult humanitarian situation” and “blockade” in the region is unacceptable.

The violation of the agreements reached on the transportation of goods to the residents of Armenia by Azerbaijan through the International Committee of the Red Cross along the Aghdam-Khankendi road, and the intensification of the use of the Lachin road by Armenia and the so-called regime it established, demonstrates that the current situation is not humanitarian, but political manipulation.

Jeyhun Bayramov stressed the need for the international community to strongly condemn Armenia's provocative steps, including its statements in support of the so-called regime established in the territories of Azerbaijan, in order not to miss the historical opportunity to establish peace and security in the region in the post-conflict period.

“Despite the statements and steps of the Armenian side that jeopardize the peace process, we are determined to advance the normalization agenda, however, our commitment to this position does not affect our right to prevent any threats to our territorial integrity and sovereignty,” the minister added.

During the telephone conversation, the sides also exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest.
