ICESCO keen on expanding cooperation with Azerbaijan, says Director-General

Azerbaijan's Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeyhun Bayramov has met with Director-General of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) Salim bin Mohammed AlMalik.

During the meeting, the sides discussed cooperation between Azerbaijan and ICESCO, as well as the current situation in the region.

Touching upon the close cooperation with ICESCO in promoting intercultural dialogue, combating threats such as racial discrimination and Islamophobia, Minister Jeyhun Bayramov expressed his hope that the opening of the ICESCO regional center soon in Azerbaijan would contribute to the further development of relations.

FM Bayramov provided an insight into the post-conflict situation in the region, as well as Azerbaijan's peace and reconstruction efforts. The minister mentioned that Azerbaijan has taken necessary steps towards the restoration of religious and cultural heritage in the liberated territories in Karabakh, which was destroyed by Armenia during the almost 30-year-long conflict.

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov also briefed the guest on the reasons of the local anti-terrorist measures implemented by Azerbaijan in its sovereign territory, as well as the current disarmament process and the reintegration of the Armenian residents of Karabakh.

Director-General Salim bin Mohammed AlMalik said that ICESCO is interested in expanding cooperation with Azerbaijan, stressing the importance of efforts to strengthen relations in the future.

During the meeting, the parties also exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest.
