Azerbaijani and Egyptian Presidents held expanded meeting

Ilham Aliyev, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, held an expanded meeting with Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Arab Republic of Egypt.

Both sides expressed satisfaction with the level of bilateral political relations between Azerbaijan and Egypt. They highly appreciated cooperation within international organizations, particularly within the Non-Aligned Movement and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. The significance of Egypt's Presidency of COP27 and Azerbaijan's Presidency of COP29 was highlighted, with an emphasis placed on cooperation and experience exchange between the two countries in this area.

The parties underlined the importance of cooperation and experience exchange as Egypt would host the World Urban Forum this year and Azerbaijan in 2026 through the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-HABITAT).

The discussion also covered cooperation in energy, construction, industry, pharmaceuticals, transportation, and other sectors between the two countries, and the fact that the next meeting of the intergovernmental commission will be held in Egypt. They mentioned Azerbaijan's business delegation visit to Egypt and ongoing exploration of cooperation opportunities in various sectors.

The discussions revolved around increasing the capacity of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway line, Egypt’s expanding economic and commercial relations with Central Asian countries using this line through the Turkish Port of Mersin. They also exchanged views on the North-South Transport Corridor, and cooperation in this regard.

During the meeting, the Egyptian President noted that Egypt supports the process of normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan. President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi commended the return of four villages to Azerbaijan through negotiations and the progress made in delimiting and demarcating the borders between the two countries.

Abdel Fattah El-Sisi underlined that the Egyptian companies are interested in participating in the restoration and construction works in Azerbaijan’s liberated territories.
