Azerbaijan, U.S. discuss priorities of new stage in energy cooperation

Parviz Shahbazov, Azerbaijan’s Energy Minister, met with Brendan Hanrahan, Senior Bureau Official for the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs at the U.S. Department of State.
Discussions focused on the strategic importance of the August 8 Washington meeting between Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and U.S. President Donald Trump, which elevated bilateral and regional relations, including energy cooperation, to a new level. In this regard, the sides discussed cooperation priorities such as investment in the energy sector and enhancing infrastructure for regional connectivity.
The two also reviewed issues arising from the establishment of the Strategic Working Group to prepare the Charter on Strategic Partnership between Azerbaijan and the U.S.
Minister Shahbazov hailed U.S. support for Azerbaijan's energy security projects, stressing that cooperation with the United States is vital for Europe’s energy supply sustainability.
The meeting also addressed the current status and prospects of cooperation with ExxonMobil, Azerbaijan’s long-term partner in the oil and gas sector, including expansion into new onshore projects, as well as LNG, crude oil, and petroleum product trade with the United States through SOCAR Trading.
The parties further discussed prospects for collaboration in the hydrocarbon and renewable energy sectors, particularly green energy corridor projects that would connect Azerbaijan with Türkiye and Europe via Nakhchivan, Armenia, the Black Sea, and Georgia, while also providing Azerbaijan–Central Asia energy links across the Caspian Sea.
U.S. companies and investors were invited to take advantage of potential projects in Azerbaijan.
