An exhibition by Peruvian artist Sol Alejo entitled “The Imaginary World Between the Andes and the Caucasus” has opened at the Heydar Aliyev Center.

Alpacas, symbolic of the Andean highlands, are the focal figures in Alejo’s works, depicted with human emotions.

Prior to the ceremony, the artist told journalists that Peru is globally renowned as the homeland of alpacas, which dominate much of her artwork, rendered in a contemporary style.

The artist said that inspired by the historical monuments and landmarks of Baku and Shamakhi, she created pieces for the exhibition featuring alpacas in these locations, experiencing new emotions and ideas during her visits.

Inspired by the nature of the Andes and Caucasus Mountains, Sol Alejo portrays alpacas symbolically and emotionally—sometimes alone, sometimes in pairs—highlighting their connection to the surrounding environment.

Alejo emphasized the special significance of this collection for her and expressed the possibility of creating new works related to Azerbaijan in the future.

Then, the guests viewed the exhibition, which includes a range of Alejo’s works, including pieces created specifically for the Baku show.

A participant in more than 60 local and international exhibitions, Alejo has been passionate about art since childhood. Inspired by the nature of the Andes and Caucasus Mountains, she uses generalized alpaca images to symbolize cultural connection, bridging South American and Caucasian landscapes and emotions through art as a universal language.
