Alkis Drakinos: Transport routes through the South Caucasus bolster trade between Europe and Asia

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) stands ready to support the expansion of international cooperation in the South Caucasus, just as it does in other regions of the world, said Alkis Drakinos, the EBRD Regional Director for the Caucasus, during his speech at the South-East European and Trans-Caspian Business Summit, held as part of the 13th Global Baku Forum.

Drakinos noted a significant transformation in the policies of regional states, which has paved the way for enhanced connectivity, cooperation, and the implementation of projects of international significance. He emphasized that these opportunities have created a fertile environment for economic growth, business expansion, and increased trade. Furthermore, a unique opening has emerged for regional states to engage in more active interaction and establish meaningful dialogue.

“In this region, where Azerbaijan and Armenia are located, new perspectives are emerging. The world is changing; alongside concerning crises, there are signs of hope. The international community is responding and finding solutions. We hope this process continues. As an institution, we are ready to support this,” Drakinos stated. He further emphasized that transport routes passing through the region act as a catalyst for global economic development and the strengthening of trade ties between Europe and Asia.
