“We welcome the initiative to nominate Ambassador Feridun Sinirlioğlu, who currently serves as OSCE secretary-general, for the position of UN secretary-general,” Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry spokesperson Aykhan Hajizada said in response to a media inquiry regarding Türkiye’s nomination of Sinirlioğlu for the post.

“We reiterate the importance of a selection process guided by the principles and purposes of the UN Charter and based on candidates’ professional skills, international and diplomatic experience, impartiality, and ability to build consensus among member states.

“We believe that ongoing consultations and constructive dialogue among member states will lead to an appropriate decision that will strengthen the UN’s ability to respond more effectively to contemporary global challenges,” Hajizada emphasized.
